Membership in international organizations
After receiving the status of independent municipality, Maardu searches for the way of development and place in the constantly varying world. Maardu attaches great importance to both harmonious life inside the city and to the experience, which the other cities and organizations have saved up in the field of urbanization.
With that end in view, Maardu decided to enter such international organizations as the World Winter Cities Association for Mayors (WWCAM) with the headquarters in Sapporo (Japan) and the Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) with the headquarters in Gdansk (Poland). The new push was given to the conception of economic development, joining up the development of common safeguards in crisis situations. The direct participation in European funds and projects expands the opportunities to receive the additional financing.
